On November 3, 2026, Google rewrote the help text for the "Crawled – currently not indexed" status. It now says the status is common and not always a problem, and points to URL Inspection for important pages.

Table of Contents(5 sections)

Key takeaways

  • Google rewrote the help text for the "Crawled – currently not indexed" status in the Search Console Page indexing report. Search Engine Roundtable reported it on November 3, 2026.
  • The new text says Google "doesn't index all pages across the web," so the status is common and "doesn't necessarily indicate an issue that needs attention."
  • For important pages, Google now points to the URL Inspection tool to check for blocks, and to a form for reporting site-wide indexing bugs.
  • The old line saying the page "may or may not be indexed in the future; no need to resubmit this URL" is gone.

What changed

The change is on Google's Page indexing report help page, in the "Crawled – currently not indexed" section. You can compare it with the archived version from October 26, 2026.

Search Engine Roundtable also noted that the new text does not mention page quality, even though Google has named quality as a factor for this status before.

What it means for your site

A handful of URLs in this status is normal. Thousands of product or service pages in it is not. That usually points to thin or duplicate templates, filter URLs eating crawl time, or pages that are hard to reach from the rest of the site.

What to do

  1. Sort the list by value. Ignore filter URLs and thin tag pages. Focus on the pages that make you money.
  2. Inspect a sample of those pages with URL Inspection, as Google now suggests. Look for blocks, the wrong canonical or a noindex.
  3. Look for a pattern. If most of them share one template, fix the template, not the pages one by one.
  4. Measure in batches. Resubmit a batch, then watch the indexed count before moving on.

We used this method to take one WooCommerce store from about 3,000 to 11,549 indexed pages. See our indexing recovery service, our technical SEO services, or the GSC regex library to filter these URLs in Search Console.
