Where do you actually
rank on Google?

Your own searches are personalised — they flatter you. Enter a domain and up to 5 keywords to see which SERP features own each query and what the top 10 looks like in the country you pick. Live position tracking is in preview; for your real numbers, the founder checks them by hand, free, within 24 hours.

How to read your results

1

Your position is a range, not a fact

Google returns slightly different results by city, device and time of day. A keyword sitting at #8 today and #11 tomorrow hasn't moved in any meaningful sense — it's one position, wobbling. Treat anything inside ±3 as noise and watch the trend over weeks.

2

The URL that ranks matters more than the number

If Google is ranking your homepage for a service keyword, that's usually a content problem, not a rankings problem — you don't have a page that deserves the query yet. Building the right page often beats trying to push the wrong one up.

3

Position #1 isn't the top of the page any more

AI Overviews, featured snippets, local packs and People Also Ask boxes all sit above the first organic result. Ranking #1 underneath three SERP features can earn fewer clicks than ranking #4 on a clean results page. Read the features list before you celebrate the number.

4

Who's above you tells you what to build

If the top 10 is directories and listicles, you need a comparison page. If it's all local businesses, your Google Business Profile is the lever. If it's Reddit and forums, Google has decided this query wants opinion, not marketing copy.

What each SERP feature means

A SERP feature is anything Google puts on the results page that isn't a plain blue link. Each one takes clicks away from the organic results — and each one is its own opportunity to appear.

Why your position looks different when you search

Search history

Google knows you've visited your own site hundreds of times. It ranks what you engage with higher — for you, and only for you.

Location

Results shift between countries, cities and even neighbourhoods. Checking from your office is checking one very specific SERP.

Device and account

Desktop and mobile return different results, and being signed in changes them again. An incognito window helps but does not fully strip personalisation.

This is why an un-personalised check is the number worth tracking — and why the position you see in your own browser is almost always flattering.

Quick Answers

Is the SERP Checker live yet?

It runs in preview mode today. That means it shows you which SERP features are in play for a query and what a top-10 layout looks like, but it will not tell you your position — because it cannot measure it yet. Live position tracking switches on once the data provider is connected. Until then, the founder will check your keywords by hand and send you the real numbers free within 24 hours.

Why won't the tool just estimate my ranking?

Because an estimate dressed up as a position is worse than no answer. An invented '#47' next to your domain looks exactly like a real measurement, and you would make decisions on it. When we don't know, the tool says so.

How will the SERP checker find my ranking once it's live?

It pulls the Google results page for your keyword and location, then scans the top 100 organic positions for your domain — subdomains included. You get the exact position, the URL that ranks, and the competitors sitting above you.

Why does my position differ from what I see in Google?

Your own searches are personalised by location, search history and device, and they often show your site higher than it really ranks. A clean, un-personalised check for the country you pick is the number worth tracking.

What is a SERP feature?

Anything on a Google results page that isn't a plain blue link — AI Overviews, featured snippets, People Also Ask boxes, local packs, image rows, top stories, shopping listings and knowledge panels. They push organic results down the page, so ranking #1 beneath three of them can earn fewer clicks than ranking #4 on a clean SERP.

What does the AI Overview row mean?

Google increasingly answers queries with an AI Overview above the classic results. When your domain is cited there it matters more than position #1, so the tool flags it separately from your organic rank.
