8+ Word Conversational / AI-Prompt Queries
^([^" "]+\s){7,}[^" "]+$
What it finds: Long-tail, conversational searches (8 or more words) where Google almost always triggers an AI Overview or where users paste full prompts into Search.
SEO action: Sort by Impressions descending. Add a 40–60 word direct answer paragraph immediately under an H2 matching the top query to win the AI Overview citation.
Example:what is the statute of limitations for car accidents in texas

10+ Word Ultra-Specific Prompt Queries (Zero-Click Diagnostic)
^([^" "]+\s){9,}[^" "]+$
What it finds: Ultra-long queries (10+ words) often generated by AI search grounding (ChatGPT/Perplexity fan-out queries) or voice search.
SEO action: High impressions + 0 clicks here means Google is using your page as a grounding source in AI Overviews. Turn these into explicit FAQ sections on the ranking URL.
Example:can i sue a trucking company if the driver was an independent contractor
What it finds: Queries where searchers and LLMs compare two options, products, legal remedies, or service providers.
SEO action: Add a clean HTML <table> comparing the two entities side-by-side — Google AI Overviews and Perplexity extract comparison tables verbatim.
Example:chapter 7 vs chapter 13 bankruptcy eligibility

Process, Checklist & Step-by-Step Queries
\b(how to|steps to|checklist|process|guide to|what happens when|what to do after)\b
What it finds: Procedural queries where AI Overviews synthesize numbered lists.
SEO action: Structure the answer using an ordered list (<ol><li>) with bolded lead-in steps so Google extracts your list as the featured snippet / AI citation.
Example:what to do after a hit and run accident in wichita
What it finds: Every query with explicit legal representation intent, separating real case prospects from student/informational legal lookups.
SEO action: Filter pages by Pos 4–15 on these queries. Improving internal links, attorney bio E-E-A-T, and local title tags here directly produces signed cases.
What it finds: High-intent commercial queries from shoppers ready to check out.
SEO action: Verify that product or category pages (not blog posts) rank for these queries and that Merchant Listing schema (price, availability) is valid.
Example:buy benchmade bugout knife online in stock

SKU, Model Number & Alphanumeric Product Searches
\b[a-zA-Z]{1,5}[- ]?[0-9]{2,6}[a-zA-Z0-9]*\b
What it finds: Shoppers searching exact manufacturer part numbers, SKUs, or model codes — the highest-converting traffic in ecommerce.
SEO action: Include exact manufacturer model numbers in H1s, title tags, and Product schema `mpn` / `sku` fields.
Example:bm-535bk-2 in stock

Commercial Investigation ('Best / Top / Review') Queries
What it finds: Searches for interactive utilities and downloadable frameworks — the #1 natural backlink earners in SEO.
SEO action: Turn high-impression static blog posts matching these terms into interactive web tools or checklists.

RE2 Syntax Cheat Sheet
5 RE2 tokens that do 90% of the work in Search Console
(?i)
Case-insensitive flag
Place at the very start of your pattern so uppercase and lowercase URLs or queries both match.
\b(word1|word2)\b
Whole-word alternation
Matches any word in the group without accidentally matching substrings (so 'car' does not match 'scar').
^ and $
Start and end anchors
Use ^http:// to match only URLs starting with HTTP, or ^([^" "]+\s){7,} to count words from the start of a query.
\?.*=
Escaped query string check
Because ? is a quantifier in regex, escape it as \? when hunting parameterized URLs in the Page filter.
FAQ
Google Search Console Regex Questions, Answered
Where do I paste a regex filter in Google Search Console?
Open Google Search Console, go to Performance > Search results, click '+ New' in the filter bar at the top, choose either 'Query...' or 'Page...', select 'Custom (regex)' from the dropdown, and paste the expression.
What regex syntax does Google Search Console use?
Google Search Console uses Google's RE2 regular expression syntax. RE2 supports standard character classes, word boundaries (\b), alternation (|), quantifiers ({n,m}) and case-insensitive flags ((?i)), but does not support lookaheads or lookbehinds. Every pattern on this page is strictly valid RE2.
How can I use regex in Search Console to spot AI Overview queries?
Google does not provide a separate 'AI Overviews' filter in Search Console, and clicks/impressions inside AI Overviews are folded into standard Web search totals. However, filtering Query by 8+ or 10+ words (`^([^" "]+\s){7,}[^" "]+$`) surfaces the conversational, prompt-style searches where AI Overviews appear most often. High impressions paired with a sudden CTR drop on those queries usually means an AI Overview is answering the query above organic links.
How do I filter out branded queries in Google Search Console?
Use the Custom Brand Regex Builder at the top of this page: enter your brand name, common misspellings, and founder/attorney names separated by commas. Then in Search Console choose Query > Custom (regex) > Doesn't match regex and paste the generated `(?i)\b(...)\b` pattern.
What is the character limit for a Search Console regex filter?
Search Console allows up to 4,096 characters in a single custom regex filter. Keep alternation lists concise using word boundaries (`\b(term1|term2|term3)\b`) rather than repeating full phrases.
